The 2016 Da Nang International Lifeguard Competition took place at the East Sea Park in Son Tra District yesterday.

Jointly organised by the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches and Surf Life Saving Australia, the one-day event attracted 24 teams with a total of around 50 rescuers from the central region’s most renowned seaside holiday resorts.

Included were the UK registered charity Swim Viet Nam, FLC Thanh Hoa, Vinpearl Land Amusement Park in Khanh Hoa Province’s Nha Trang City, Laguna Resort in Thua Thien Hue Province’s Hue City, Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort and Spa in Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An, the Premier Village Danang Resort, and the Furama Resort Danang.

The contestants competed in a wide range of categories, including capture the flag, relay running, rescue swimming, coracle racing, and board rescue relays.

This year’s competition aimed to create an opportunity for regional lifeguard clubs to exchange their experiences in maritime rescue activities in order to enhance their professional skills.  This will help to ensure the quality of such activities in these seaside holiday resorts.
