According to Mr Duong Dang Trung, the Chairman of the Lang Co Town People’s Committee, said that this is the first time erosion has happened in the Lang Co Estuary.  Heavy rains and floods late October and early November make the problem more serious, with the sea already moving more than 200m deep into land.

From 7-9 November, the town’s authorities are focussing on building a dyke to stop the erosion, with the assistance from the border guard force stationed in the locality.

Chief of the Office of the provincial Committee for Natural Disaster Mitigation and Control-Search and Rescue Phan Thanh Hung said that the provincial authorities would like scientists from both home and abroad to address the erosion while maintaining the landscape of the bay.

Lang Co Bay is situated at the foot of the Hai Van Pass, 25km north of Da Nang.  The bay boasts seaside resorts with smooth sand, clear water, a diversified ecosystem, and an extensive tropical forest covering rolling mountains.  In 2009, it was recognised as the 30th member of the 'World’s Most Beautiful Bays' club (Worldbays Club).
