A 3-day fair for workers, the first of its kind to be held in the city, was recently organised at the cultural and sports centre for workers on Road No 2 in Da Nang’s Hoa Khanh Industrial Park (IP) between 11 and 13 November.

Co-organised by the Labour Union and the Trade Promotion Centre in Da Nang, the event provided local IP workers with the opportunity to buy a wide range of essential goods at very low prices.

The fair featured 50 stalls showcasing a variety of high-quality products with attractive promotion programmes.  In addition, various community activities were held during the fair including legal advisory services, free medical examinations and treatment, free-of-charge make up training, dancing and cookery lessons, a karaoke competition, and exciting musical performances.  Not surprisingly, the fair was well attended by local IP workers.

24-year-old Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, a worker at a children’s plastic toy and stuffed animals company, could not hide her excitement as she was able to buy a set of inox cookers and an electric rice cooker at very reasonable prices.  The young lady said, “I am taking advantage of this opportunity to buy some kitchen appliances because their prices are cheaper than similar products sold in local markets”.

During the fair, one especially popular stall was called ‘Cho Di De Nhan Lai’ (To Give Away To Get Back) which offered numerous beautiful items at low prices.

30-year-old worker Tran Van Tuan from a local electronics company was very happy because he could buy a lovely pink T-shirt for his girlfriend at a reasonable price.  He remarked, “I hope such fairs will be held monthly to help local workers buy high-quality items at low prices”.

Many visitors stopped at a stall selling numerous second-hand items, including kitchen appliances, fashionable clothes, hand bags, children toys, souvenirs and electronic devices.  The stall was created thanks to the great efforts of the municipal Labour Culture House who had appealed to local businesses, organisations and individuals for their old and used items.

Chairman of the municipal Labour Union Luong Nguyen Minh Triet remarked that the fair played a vital role in enhancing the spiritual life of local blue-collar employees at the local IPs as well as created a useful cultural and entertainment place for them.

In the near future, the Union will organise more practical programmes and activities to ensure the best benefits for local workers.  The focus will be on donating Tet gifts for poor workers, and offering free bus tickets to IP workers to help them return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families. In addition, more group weddings will be held for poor couples.

Also, greater efforts will be put into appealing for more investment into the building of housing units, kindergartens, minimarkets, and other cultural and sports centres for local IP workers.
