On Wednesday, the Secretary of the Thanh Khe District Party Committee, Mr Le Minh Trung, and the District People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Nguyen Van Tinh, presented 10 million VND from the district’s budget to the Drug Crime Investigation Team of Thanh Khe District police station.

The unit’s officers had broken up a drugs ring found to be illegally transporting drugs from Laos to Da Nang.  The ring was led by 20-year-old Le Minh Thang from the district.

Earlier, on 13 October, the team’s police officers had seen 22-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Phung, also from Thanh Khe District, selling drugs to a group of local drug addicts.  A total of 23 ecstasy tablets were seized at the scene.

On the same day, 33-year-old Vo Van Minh from Quang Nam Province had been caught red-handed by local police officers when he was delivering 50 ecstasy tablets to other drug addicts.

Initial investigations have shown that Phung and Minh were accomplices of Thang who is a driver who regularly transports goods between Da Nang and Laotian localities.  Thang had taken advantage of his driving activities to connect with drug dealers in Laos in order to illegally transport drugs to Da Nang for consumption.

On 25 November, 20-year-old Nguyen Nhat Huy, also an accomplice of Thang, was detained whilst he was selling drugs to local addicts.  A total of 13 packets of methamphetamine were seized.

Also on the same day, the team’s police officers made an inspection of Thang’s rented room and seized 250 grams of methamphetamine, 163 ecstasy tablets, 25 methamphetamine tablets, and many drug interaction tools.
