Bicycles and motorcycles to be banned from parking along Bach Dang
According to the latest statistics released by the Hai Chau District People’s Committee (PC), the total number of bicycles and motorcycles parked along Da Nang’s Bach Dang at weekends from 6.00am to noon, and from 1.00pm to 5.00pm is around 500, whilst that figure increases to about 900 from 8.00pm to 9.00pm. This has caused negative affects on social order, the landscape, and traffic along the beautiful riverside street.

To solve the problems, approval has been given by the municipal PC to prohibit bicycles and motorcycles from parking along this street each day between 6.00pm to 10.30pm. The ban will take effect from early next month, and it will be implemented on a pilot basis until March 2017. The local authorities will then evaluate the efficiency of the scheme in order to perfect it.
Instead, road users will be allowed to park their vehicles on the pavements of the roads running off Bach Dang, and the parking fees will be 2,000 VND and 1,000 VND for motorcycles and bicycles respectively. Alternatively, owners of motorcycles and bicycles can pay 50,000 VND and 30,000 VND respectively for a month’s parking. Approval has been given for the Hai Chau authorities to collect the fees.
The district PC will develop plans to ensure the smooth operation of traffic and security near the new parking areas. In addition, they will publicise the new parking regulations to locals and visitors.
