Over the past 3 years, many development projects have been implemented in Da Nang. However, there have been some unexpected issues arising during the city's development progress.
In particular, the Da Nang International Airport is likely to welcome 6 million passengers in total by the end of this year, and this figure will hit the airport’s target which was set for 2020.
In addition, the Tien Sa Port is facing an overload of container ships. The 14B Highway connecting the port with provinces in the central highlands has seen a significant increase in the number of vehicles, which has affected urban development in Ngu Hanh Son and Son Tra districts.
Currently, the urban land area in the city is 9,000ha, double that of 2010. Da Nang is planning to expand its urban land area to 37,500ha by 2030, and therefore has to speed up the development of the urban infrastructure, especially transport.
In attempting to deal with these problems, the city will focus on accelerating the progress of the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway, and a link route between Da Nang’s Tuy Loan village and Thua Thien-Hue Province’s La Son village, which is part of the Ho Chi Minh road. Importance will be attached to relocating the city’s railway station, upgrading and expanding Da Nang International Airport, and building the Lien Chieu Port.
In addition, special attention will be paid to connecting external and internal traffic networks in accordance with the central region transport development plans. In particular, greater efforts will be made to develop a transport route between Da Nang and Quang Nam Province’s Nam Giang District, Da Nang and Quang Tri Province’s La Bao Town to connect with Laos and Thailand, and Da Nang and the highland provinces. This will help Da Nang become a transport hub in the central region and highlands.
Using underground space is one of the most important issues listed in the city’s adjusted master urban plan. Vacant space in the city centre is decreasing, so the exploition of underground space could bring great benefits.
The city authorities will invite world-renowned experts to provide consultancy services for the city to adjust its master urban plan towards 2030 with a vision to 2050.
