At a meeting with the city’s leaders last week the Director of Swim Viet Nam, Ms Joanne Steward, said that her organisation would boost bilateral cooperation with the city in building a big swimming pool, as well as providing swimming education and training for teachers, and introducing drowning prevention skills to them.

According to Swim Viet Nam, over 17,500 children have been taught how to swim since its operation started in the central region in 2008, and over 160 adults have been trained as swimming instructors.

Over 30,000 primary school children have attended Swim Viet Nam’s classroom-based water safety education presentations.  This organisation also operates 8 swim schools.

Da Nang is the first Vietnamese locality to provide learn to swim courses for local primary pupils.

About 14,000 have benefited from this project, which includes 50 mobile swimming pools.
Swim Viet Nam also provided free swimming courses for pupils in Quang Nam Province from 2012 to 2014.

According to Ministry of Health, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children over the age of one in  Viet Nam, with nearly 10 drowning every day.
