Speaking at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung highly praised the association’s chapters for their great efforts in giving active support to local disadvantaged children. He took the opportunity to ask them to continue strengthening their organisational structures, maintaining good relationships with their traditional sponsors, and appealing for more donors to help the local children in need. He added that this would help the city’s implementation of its 'City of 4 Safe Programmes' campaign.
Over the past 5 years, around 18 billion VND has been raised by the Association to help the local poor and create jobs for many local disabled children. Over 400 million VND of this has been spent on granting scholarships, and giving books and learning tools, to over 500 orphaned, disabled, and poor children. The Association has also cooperated with other local relevant agencies to provide free medical examinations and treatment as well as medicines for nearly 3,000 people.
Numerous positive results have been recorded by the Association’s chapters. In particular, during the period, the Hoa Mai Orphan Care Centre has brought up 245 orphans. Many of them have now found stable jobs. The city’s Newborn Orphan Care Centre has received and brought up 61 more, and adoptive parents have been found for 20 children.
Also at the event, 32 members of the Association’s Executive Board were elected, with Mr Nguyen Hoang Long being appointed Chairman of the Association for the 2017 - 2021 tenure.
