Organised by the municipal Labour Union, the event was attended by Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, People's Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, and thousands of workers from across the city.

At the event, the Labour Union donated Tet gifts, worth around 2 billion VND in total, to over 4,000 poor workers and white-collar employees.  Also, a total of 500 mobile SIM cards were given to those who cannot afford to return to their home towns to celebrate Tet.  The cards will allow them free calls on Lunar New Year's Eve.

In addition, a total of 600 million VND was given to 27 trade union members to help them refurbish their damaged homes to welcome in Tet.  Most notably, the city’s trade union organisations at grass-roots level will organise 42 free bus services and donate around 4,500 train tickets to help poor workers return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families.

Last weekend, the municipal Youth Union of the city’s government agencies launched a charity campaign entitled ‘Xuan Yeu Thuong’ (Spring of Love) with a total fund of over 236 million VND.

At the final round of a contest entitled ‘Shining Childhood Talents’ which took place in the city last Saturday, Tet gifts worth 500,000 VND each were given to 100 poor local studious pupils.

Following a recent decision by the municipal People’s Committee, 500,000 VND will be presented to each of 1,250 former youth volunteers from across the city to help them celebrate Tet.  The Association of Former Youth Volunteers has recently appealed for local businesses to donate Tet gifts, valued at 500,000 VND each, to 70 of its poor members.
