Major intersections upgraded

DA NANG Today

Da Nang is now home to dozens of intersections which are seeing a large number of vehicles and road users.  During rush hours and on public holidays, local traffic officers are arranged to be on duty at these sites to regulate traffic, but traffic congestion sometimes occurs.

In attempting to solve such problem, the municipal Department of Transport has taken numerous proactive measures to adjust and expand these busy intersections.

Numerous local intersections have already been upgraded and put into operation to avoid traffic congestion and reduce the number of traffic accidents.  They are intersections at the western end of the Han River Bridge, of Nguyen Tri Phuong and Dien Bien Phu, of Cach Mang Thang Tam and Nguyen Huu Tho, of Ngu Hanh Son, Le Van Hien and Ho Xuan Huong, and of Nguyen Van Linh and Nguyen Tri Phuong.

Driver Nguyen Tan Thuat from the Tien Sa Taxi Company, said “Every day I usually pick up and drop off passengers at the city’s international airport.  In the past, traffic congestion usually occurred at the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh and Nguyen Tri Phuong near the airport.  However, since the upgrade of such intersection has been completed, the problem has been solved effectively, whilst local traffic safety has been ensured”.

Driver Nguyen Tan Son from the Club 99 located in the Furama Resort Danang, remarked “Now I feel very secure whist driving through the intersection of Ngu Hanh Son, Le Van Hien, and Ho Xuan Huong thanks to the installation of traffic lights and lanes, as well as the placement of traffic signs here”.

Director of the municipal Transport Department Le Van Trung said that since early April last year, 6 local two-way streets have been changed into one-way operation, whilst traffic signs have been installed 16 local streets to indicate that 4-wheeled vehicles are only allowed to park along them either on odd dates or even dates.

Importance has been attached to dealing with 97 local traffic hotpots, upgrading major intersections, and installing traffic lights at these venues, including those allowing vehicles to turn right on red from the right lane.

Heed has been paid to installing surveillance cameras at local intersections, which has helped to ensure smooth traffic flows and to reduce the number of traffic accidents at these venues.

In the coming time, greater efforts will be made to building more overpasses, tunnels, and bridges to facilitate the travel demands of local residents and visitors.  The intention is to help the city to enhance local urban landscapes, to ensure environmental sanitation and traffic safety, as well as to boost socio-economic development.  This will also play a vital role in making the city more civilised, friendly and liveable coastal tourism destination for both domestic and foreign visitors.
