My Khe Beach faces coastal erosion
Some sections of Da Nang’s My Khe Beach have been suffering devastating erosion for over a month now, and many beach service providers along the beach are becoming increasingly worried.

In particular, a nearly 100m-long section of the beach, in front of a vacation centre for Vietnamese military officers, is the hardest hit by the erosion.
Before Tet, a beach service kiosk on the beach was completely devastated by high sea waves. 50 mattresses, 2 parasols, many tables and chairs, and other items were totally wiped out by the sea waves, with the total cost of the damage estimated at over 40 million VND.

A beach service provider on the beach, Ms Nguyen Thi Ut, noted that she has operated her business activities here for over 20 years, but this was the first time she had seen such coastal erosion at a concerning rate. She and other service providers also complained that sea water is encroaching on their facilities, putting off their potential customers.

According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the phenomenon of coastal erosion occurs on some local beaches every year. Therefore, representatives from the Department are striving to identify whether or not this year’s problem is any different from the previous years. If something abnormal is found, the municipal departments of Tourism and Natural Resources and the Environment will jointly produce a report on the environmental impact of the matter and submit it to the city leaders for consideration.
