According to the study, the new railway station will be built in Lien Chieu District, and will involve the construction of 18.21km of new railtrack and the improvement of 7km of the existing.  The new railway station will consist of both a 43.1ha passenger terminal and an 80.1ha one for freight.

The relocation project will also cover an upgrade of the Le Trach Cargo Station on an area of 9.6ha, a new rail bridge spanning the Cu De River, and a 5-lane overpass at the road-railway crossing.

The project is expected to cost around 5,764 billion VND, and the relocation period is scheduled to be from 2017 to 2023.

According to the WB’s consultancy unit, the new location will easily link with the future national high-speed railway routes which have already been approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport, the soon-to-be-built Lien Chieu Port, and the existing industrial parks.

In addition, the new railway station will help link the city’s north-south railway system with the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway now under construction, and the bypass expansion project on the southern side of the Hai Van Tunnel.  The aim is to create a breakthrough for the development of the western and northwestern sides of the city, and to help the city deal with traffic congestion near its existing railway station.
