Hoa Vang District’s flower-growing area increased from nearly 182ha in 2015 to over 195ha last year.  Most notably, many advanced growing technologies have been introduced over recent years, and there are now many high-quality flowers being produced in the local flower growing areas.

Currently, there are flower growing areas in the communes of Hoa Phong, Hoa Phuoc, Hoa Lien and Hoa Ninh in Hoa Vang District.  These specialise in producing popular types of flowers, with seeds sourced from Da Lat City and Ho Chi Minh City’s Cu Chi District.  Some growers are now planting such high-value types of flowers as kalanchoe, gerbera and roses.  In particular, there is an increasing tendency to apply advanced growing techniques into the cultivation activities to increase productivity and ensure sufficient supplies of flowers in the local market.

There are currently 23 families in a flower growing area in Hoa Phuoc Commune’s Duong Son Village.  The 3.5ha site, which has been equipped with electrical and irrigation systems, now produces various kinds of colourful flowers, including orchids, chrysanthemums, pink roses, hollyhocks and sunflowers.

Many local flower growers are now preferring to grow potted flowers for sale rather than cut flowers.  Local grower Nguyen Thi Cu said that her family is focusing on growing various types of potted flowers including pansies, primroses and petunias.  She remarked that growing potted flowers for sale is more profitable, and this growing technique helps prevent these types of flowers from pests and disease-causing fungii.

The Chairman of the Hoa Phong Commune Farmers’ Association, Mr Nguyen Tan Luc, said that funding from the district’s budget will be granted for the establishment of a 1ha soft net-covered farm featuring an automatic misting system in the commune’s Go Giang flower growing area.  Also, local farmers will be offered gerbera, rose and sunflower seeds free of charge.

According to the district’s Agriculture and Rural Development Office, 2 greenhouses will be constructed in Hoa Ninh Commune’s Trung Nghia Village and Hoa Phu Commune’s Dong Lang Village, each costing 3.5 billion VND.  These greenhouses, which will feature automatic irrigation systems, will protect the expensive flowers from excessive sunlight and rain.  It is expected that numerous types of high-value flowers will be planted by late this year.

The application of advanced technologies into agricultural cultivation helps local farmers familiarise themselves with new growing methods, as well as effectively control and minimise the negative impacts of pests and unfavourable weather conditions.

The district is aiming to establish more specialised flower growing areas producing a wide range of organic, high-value flowers in a bid to satisfy the increasing public demand.
