The National Committee for Traffic Safety, and the Ford Viet Nam, has donated 8 'Drunk Driving Suits' and smart camera systems for traffic supervision to drivers’ training centres in Da Nang.

The equipment is part of the 'Driving Skills for Life' (DSFL) programme of the Ford Viet Nam which was launched this week in Da Nang to raise awareness of traffic dangers and driving safety. The programme has provided training courses for more than 500,000 people around the world through hands-on and online tuition since its inception 11 years ago.

According to the Ford Viet Nam, the 'Drunk Driving Suits' will help driving learners understand situations and behaviours when driving drunk. The suit simulates the effects of reduced mobility, vision, and coordination with padding and ankle weights, goggles and headphones.

The DSFS programme, organised jointly by Ford Viet Nam and the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation, has educated 13,000 learners at driving centres in Viet Nam over the past 10 years.

Da Nang has launched its own traffic detection software to identify traffic violations, and installed traffic cameras at 4,700 sites to monitor accidents and violations.

Six taxi firms with more than 1,000 cabs in Da Nang have installed Global Positioning System (GPS) car tracking in an effort to reduce accidents. More than 1,300 buses and 879 trucks in the city alone already installed GPS tracking equipment.
