Da Nang traffic police announced that they will publicise the license plates of traffic offenders captured via cameras on the unit’s Facebook page every Wednesday, starting from this week.

According to Major Pham Hong Hai, head of advisory department of PC67 (Da Nang traffic police), the department has been fining violators of traffic laws since last November.

However, notifying violators so they can contact police and pay the fines was deemed ‘too slow a process,’ leading to many people being unaware they have broken the law for a long time.

Publicising violators’ license plates on Facebook aims to deliver the information more quickly.
Currently, the central city has traffic cameras at nine locations deemed with the highest traffic density in the city, including Cach Mang Thang Tam and downtown intersections like Nguyen Van Linh – Tran Phu – 2/9, Hung Vuong – Ong Ich Khiem, among others.

Captain Le Van Luc, deputy head of PC67, said the camera system has served its purpose in enforcing traffic laws.

PC67 has worked with the city’s vehicle registration centre to suspend vehicle registration certificates of violators who failed to pay their fines 30 days after a citation was sent.

PC67’s Facebook page was created last December, initially to receive citizen’s reports on traffic accidents or congestions and other issues and to serve as a channel for dialogue with the public. The page currently has 16,000 followers.
