The Head of the municipal Construction Department's Inspection Team, Mr Le Van Tuan, said the hotel project of the Viet Nam Holiday Company and the Sea Shore Hotel of Chinwin Company had illegally pumped waste water from their on-going excavation of basement floors into the city’s household waste treatment system.
Mr Tuan said the waste water from these projects would pollute the popular beaches in the 2 districts. “We asked the investors of the 2 projects to stop discharging effluent into the city’s sewage system before an assessment of the waste water at their sites are approved,” Mr Tuan said.
He added that his unit will carry out more inspections of all construction projects in the local coastal area.
Last week, the 27-storey Royal Era 1 Hotel was caught discharging untreated waste water from its construction site into My Khe Beach. The project investor, TMS Hotel Da Nang Joint Stock Company, was fined 6 million VND (US$265).
According to the latest report by the Construction Department, 7 out of 15 wastewater pipes still discharge untreated household sewage into the local sea. Some beaches have been heavily polluted by untreated waste water from hundreds of seafood restaurants and construction sites along the city's beaches.
The city is planning to build a waste water treatment project for cleaning the My An discharge outlet that has polluted a section of My Khe Beach in Ngu Hanh Son District.
