Over recent days, beaches near the My An, Sao Bien and My Khe sewage outlets, which have discharged domestic wastewater directly into the sea on rainy days, have been crowded with swimmers.
37-year-old Nguyen Van Ha from Lam Dong Province’s Da Lat City said that he had read information about some heavily polluted beaches in Da Nang on some newspapers. He, however, noted that local beaches are very beautiful and attractive to domestic and foreign visitors. He added that they are also wonderful places for swimming lovers.
Mrs Ceo Line Lin from Switzerland said “Da Nang’s beaches are very nice. I and my child swim at the My An beach from 8.00am to 9.30am daily and we donot want to leave the beach”. She added that this beach saw a large number of foreigners.

In an effort to ensure a hygienic bathing environment for swimmers, the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang beaches has recently placed warning signs near such sewage outlets as My Khe, My An and Pham Van Dong to ask local residents and visitors not to swim at the warned locations.
Mr Mai Ma, Director of the city’s Water Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, said that his company has made every effort to try to reduce the environmental pollution. Included are covering sewage outlets with sand, and clearing any garbage in wastewater collection ditches and sluice-gates.
