A get-together for the AELW liaison officers and volunteers recently took place in the city. Addressing the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan highlighted the need for the liaison officers and volunteers to create a close link between the APEC Organising Board, along with the host country, and the delegates attending AELW. Hopefully, these voluntary forces will play an important role in ensuring the expected great success of the forthcoming international large-scale event.
On Sunday, a total of over 3,000 government employees and residents from Son Tra District, together cleaned up the pavements of major local streets.
Furthermore, colourful panels were placed around vacant land lots at the construction sites of projects which have yet to be developed along such major streets as Hoang Sa, Truong Sa and Vo Van Kiet.
In a similar vein, a total of 1,300 flower baskets has already been placed along such inner-city streets as Tran Phu, Bach Dang and Nguyen Van Linh in bid to make the local urban landscape more beautiful during the upcoming AELW.
Also on Sunday, a rehearsal for the AELW security drill took place along a section of Tran Hung Dao on the eastern bank of the Han River.
Jointly organised by the Sub-Committee of Security and Health and the Ministry of Public, the rehearsal was attended by officials and men from the Vietnamese ministries of Defence, Public Security and Health, and those from the city’s Military Headquarters, along with their vehicles and special devices.

This was then followed by martial arts performances by special police officers who are in charge of ensuring security during AELW. In particular, an anti-territory practice session was also conducted to enhance the readiness in responding to any security complications.
The official security drill for the APEC summit week will take place on Tuesday morning, 24 October, in a bid to ensure political and social security, and ensuring the ultimate safety of the AELW participants.
