In addition, focus was on discussions about the Department’s key tasks to ensure local security, especially during the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) which will be taking place from 6-11 November.

Between January and September, a total of over 22,000 surveillance cameras were installed along major local streets and at residential areas in order to monitor and deal with both traffic and security violations.

During the review period, local police officers detected and successfully handled 301 criminal cases in Da Nang, involving a total of 456 people.  A total of 188 suspects were prosecuted in 133 cases of trading and storing illegal drugs.

Furthermore, administrative fines were also imposed on 204 environmental protection violation cases involving a total of 210 offenders.

In particular, the city saw a slight decrease in the number of road traffic accidents, deaths, and injuries against the same period last year.

Addressing the meeting, Secretary Nghia gave high praise for the Department for remarkable achievements in its performance over the review period.  He also highlighted the importance of ensuring local traffic safety and security before, during, and after the upcoming AELW next month in a bid to ensure the success of this international large-scale event.

The city’s Part chief also remarked that greater efforts should be made to continue implementing the ongoing ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign.

The local police force was also asked to do their utmost to ensure security in all local aspects in a bid to build Da Nang into a more peaceful and liveable city for locals, along with visitors and investors from both home and abroad.  In addition, special attention will be paid on ensuring local police officers’ friendly behaviours towards the general public, and their willingness to meet the aspirations of local citizens.

The city leader also asked the Department and other relevant local agencies to assist the municipal government in developing urban traffic arrangement plans in more specific manner to meet the city’s future socio-economic development requirements.
