Over 1,700 billion VND raised for the poor
On Wednesday, the Da Nang Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children celebrated its 15th birthday (8 November).
Over the past 15 years, the Association has raised a total of over 1,700 billion VND to help poor cancer patients, and disadvantaged women and children, across the city.
In particular, the money raised has been used to build the Women’s and Cancer hospitals, and to give financial aid to children living in the city’s Village of Hope.
In addition, one focus has been on providing free screening tests for over 148,000 local poor children in total for the early detection of congenital heart complaints. As a result, around 37.7 billion VND has been spent on giving free surgery to nearly 900 heart-problem children.
A total of more than 10,000 local poor patients, including about 500 female cancer ones, have enjoyed hospital fee exemptions and reductions, totalling around 6.3 billion VND. Furthermore, 1.7 million free portions of rice soup, valued at 6.6 billion VND, have been offered to poor patients at the city’s Cancer Hospital.
Addressing the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh praised the Association and its chapters at all levels for their remarkable achievements over the past years. Most notably, the Association has helped to make Da Nang become one of the country’s leading localities for providing children with free screening tests for the early detection of congenital heart complaints.
Also at the event, Vice Chairman Minh urged the Association and its chapters to make greater efforts to appeal for even more donations from individuals and organisations from both home and abroad in order to raise funds for their charitable activities.
On the occasion, a total of 31 groups and 31 individuals were presented with Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of their active involvement in the Association’s charitable activities.
