The matter results from the influence of a cold air current accompanied by powerful operation of the east monsoon.

The water levels of rivers from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh provinces are expected to rise due to prolonged torrential rain over the next few days.

Such localities as Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Kon Tum, Gia Lai and Dak Lak are predicted to be at a high risk of flash flooding and landslides.

In Da Nang, as of Monday afternoon (6 November), a total of 7,569 houses in Hoa Vang District had been inundated due to incessant heavy downpours over the previous days.

In a similar trouble, some sections of National Highway 1A running through Hoa Vang District, along with many inter-communal routes, including Cau Do –Tuy Loan,  DT 601, DH2 and DH409, had been completely cut off by the flooding.

In particular, the water level of the Cam Le River was higher than the third warning level.

As damage to the city’s agricultural production, a total of 78.9ha of vegetables in the districts of Hoa Vang, Lien Chieu, Cam Le and Ngu Hanh Son have been submerged.  Also, many of the city’s aquaculture farms have been partly destroyed.

Due to the influence of the flood, all pupils in Hoa Vang District, from primary to senior levels, were off school on 6 and 7 November following a decision by the Municipal Department of Education and Training to close all schools.

The district’s police has put warning road signs in inundated roads to ensure safety for local residents.  In addition, the local authorities has asked the city government to send 1,000 litres of Chloramine B to disinfect water sources after floods.

The number of dead people due to typhoon Damrey now raised to 69, 20 people higher than the Monday report of central and south central localities where the typhoon churned through.

Typhoon Damrey also reportedly left 30 others missing.  Khanh Hoa Province still suffered the most from the typhoon claiming 27 lives.

The typhoon had collapsed 1,484 houses and blown off 119,222 houses’ roof, and destroyed about 22,000 ha of crop in the provinces.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked all local administration of affected provinces and relevant ministries to quickly fix the consequences of the typhoon, especially, Da Nang and Quang Nam Province where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is taking place, to ensure all activities of the summit taking place smoothly and successfully.

The Prime Minister also asked the Ministry of Finance to give 1 trillion VND (44 million USD) to help the affected localities in remedying the typhoon consequences.  The financial aid will be allocated basing on the level of damage.
