The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) says moderate to heavy rains will keep lashing central regional localities from Quang Binh and Binh Dinh, including Da Nang, until next Monday.

The matter results from the influence of an intensified cold air current accompanied by strong winds from the east.

In particular, the water level of rivers from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh provinces is expected to be at the third warning level, or even higher in some of their parts due to prolonged downpours over the next few days.

Also, these localities are likely to face flash floods and landslides in their mountainous and low-lying areas.

In Da Nang, as of Wednesday, a total of 1,218 houses in Hoa Vang District had been flooded.  The problem was resulted from incessant heavy rains and the already-swollen Hoa Trung Reservoir sending an ‘uncontrolled release’ of floodwaters into many parts of the district over the previous days.

Of the figure, 829 houses were in the hardest-hit Hoa Lien Commune, 200 in Hoa Phong Commune, 157 in Hoa Nhon Commune and the remainder in Hoa Khuong.

In a similar trouble, some sections of DT 601 Road running through Hoa Lien Commune, has been submerged in floodwaters of about 0.6m.

In addition, many other inter-communal routes in the communes of Hoa Phong, Hoa Khuong, Hoa Nhon and Hoa Lien have been completely cut off by the flooding.

The primary schools of Lam Quang Thu and Hoa Lien No 2 have also been heavily flooded.
