Cold wave likely to intensify tomorrow

An ongoing cold wave from the northern part of Viet Nam is expected to intensify across the mid-central region, including Da Nang, from tomorrow (Saturday), 3 February, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The cold wave is sweeping over some central localities from Da Nang to Quang Ngai Province with the average temperatures plummeting to 15 - 17 degrees Celsius, and it may continue until next Friday (9 February).

The average temperature could reach between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius in Da Nang, and light rain spells are expected to lash some parts of the city over the coming days.  In particular, a chill is felt mainly at night and during early mornings.

In addition, the average temperatures in some central localities from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue provinces are likely to plunge to 10 - 13 degrees Celsius.

Under the influence of the blast of cold weather, the mainland of these affected localities is bracing for northeastern winds of level 3.

The northern part of the East Sea, including the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, is also experiencing strong winds of level 6 - 7, with gusts of level 8 - 9, and heavy rough seas.

Meanwhile, Northern Viet Nam has been in the grip of a cold snap since 29 January, and frost and snow in Sa Pa, a popular resort town, have been amazing tourists.

Northern mountainous areas is forecast to be covered in frost at 3 degrees or below until 7 February.
