First held in 2014 by the Da Nang Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, the ‘Smile of Da Nang’s Government Employees’ awards, have created a driving force for civil servants to bring better public services to local citizens.

The annual awards aim to recognise honourees’ great devotion and dedication to their work, and to encourage government employees to enhance their friendly and polite attitude and behaviour towards residents and businesses, as well as to boost the city’s administrative reforms.

The introduction of the awards by the Association is part of the city’s efforts to enhance its performance in Viet Nam Provincial Competitiveness Index rankings.

Mr Phan Hai, the Association’s Chairman cum General Director of the city-based BQ Shoe Company, remarked that the awards have received high praise and a great deal of attention from local agencies and the business community.

Notably, this year’ selection process has been conducted in a more professional and transparent manner, compared with the previous years.

Besides receiving feedback from residents and businesses about nominees’ performances for the prestigious awards, special heed has been paid to collecting remarks and assessments from their leaders and colleagues in their offices.

The 10 award honourees are the most outstanding public cadres who demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and self-confidence in their jobs, and became actively engaged in handling administrative procedures for citizens in a quick but effective manner.

He highlighted the significance of the awards, to some extent, in motivating and inspiring civil servants to continue ensuring their appropriate attitude towards businesses, and the general public as a whole.

In particular, the introduction of the awards also rings an alarm bell for those who neglect their duties and behave inappropriately at work.
