More joint efforts in solving war aftermaths
The people of Viet Nam have always hoped that their country and the US would close the past and look towards the future for the sake of building a more peaceful and prosperous world.
This statement was re-affirmed by Chairman of the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organisations (DAFO) Huynh Duc Truong during his recent reception for a group of representatives from the Fund for Reconciliation & Development (FRD) in the US, led by its Executive Director & Founder John McAuliff.
Chairman Truong underlined the importance of deploying even more bilateral cooperation programmes in such aspects of education, healthcare, and assistances for victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin in the coming time, in the spirit of openness and frankness.
In reply, Mr McAuliff remarked that the visit made by the FRD members aimed to gain a deeper insight into the land and people of Viet Nam, especially its remarkable achievements in the cause of national construction and development.
In particular, the US guests were very impressed by Viet Nam’s bravery and strong aspiration for further development, especially Da Nang’s rapid growth over recent years.
Mr McAuliff also vowed that FRD would continue to encourage the US government to pay more attention to solving the consequences of the Viet Nam war through the clearance of unexploded ordnances (UXOs), the provision of more aid for AO victims, and the implementation of other meaningful activities.
