The new service allows commuters to pay parking fees through their smart phones or (SMS). Fees for each parking place will cost from 15,000 VND to 30,000 VND for 2 hours.
The new parking charges on Bach Dang went into effect on Thursday (15 March), whilst that on Tran Phu will take effect from 1 April.
In detail, the fees are applied on 4-wheeled vehicles parking along a section of Bach Dang, from the Rong (Dragon) Bridge to its intersection with Quang Trung. This section will be divided into 7 areas namely BD01, BD02, BD03, BD04, BD05, BD06, and BD07.
In particular, the BD01 is from the Dragon Bridge to the intersection of Bach Dang and Le Hong Phong, whilst the BD02 is a section of Bach Dang from its intersections with Le Hong Phong and Thai Phien, the BD03 from its intersections with Thai Phien and Tran Quoc Toan, the BD04 from its intersections with Tran Quoc Toan and Pham Phu Thu, the BD05 from its intersections with Pham Phu Thu and Hung Vuong, the BD06 from its intersections with Hung Vuong and Le Duan, the BD07 from its intersections with Le Duan and Quang Trung.
A parking fee for under 16-seat vehicles and under-2.5 tonne trucks is 15,000 VND per each vehicle. Meanwhile, 20,000 VND is collected for over 16-seat vehicles and trucks of between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes, and 30,000 VND for over 30-seater vehicles and over 3,5-tonne trucks.
The fees are collected between 6.00am to 10.00pm every day, except for public holidays and Lunar New Year (Tet Festival) break approved by the Vietnamese State. They are 5-day Tet Festival break, 1-day New Year holiday break, the National Reunification Day (30 April), the International Labour Day (1 May), the death anniversary of the Hung Kings (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), and the National Day (2 September).
Most notably, fire engines, ambulances and other specialised vehicles, all of which are on official duty in accordance with the national laws, are exempt from new parking charges.
Those who violating the new rule will be imposed administrative fines, which are up to 3 times higher than the amount of parking fees. The maximum penalty will be 50 million VND.
The parking fees can be paid through mobile application named ‘Smart Parking’, through prepaid cards issued by smart parking system, or through debit and credit cards of Visa/ MasterCard, and any ATM card issued by Vietnamese banks.
