50-year-old Hoang Quy and his 39-year-old wife Dinh Thi Lai residing at 53 Vo Truong Toan Street in Son Tra District’s An Hai Bac Ward, Da Nang, are facing a very difficult situation because many unfortunate things have happened to them.  Presently, they are shouldering the heavy burden of caring for their 3 school-aged children.

In early March last year, Mr Quy was seriously injured after falling from a height from scaffolding. He was admitted to the Da Nang General Hospital in a serious condition due to his broken kneecap and traumatic brain injuries.  After receiving treatment at this hospital, he was brought to the city’s Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital for further treatment.

Mrs Lai used to work as a seasonal worker at a local frozen seafood establishment with very low income.  However, after her husband had suffered from accident injuries, she quitted her job and stayed at home to take care of him and their 3 children.

The poor wife had to borrow money from her relatives and friends to pay for the costs of medical treatments for her husband.

Late April last year, the woman was seriously injured in a road accident, causing traumatic brain injuries, epidural hematoma, and broken collarbone. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Mrs Lai sadly said, “I had to ask for permission from my doctors to let me be discharged from the hospital to stay at home because I could not afford my medical treatment costs at the hospital”.

Currently, the poor couple themselves are unable to take care of their 3 children due to their injuries, and their relatives are helping them.

The poor couple and their children are now living in a small downgraded house with seriously damaged sheet-metal roof.  There are no valuable assets in their house, except for a small television and a folding bed.

The family is now desperately in need of financial assistance to cover the couple’s medical costs, and to facilitate living expenses for their 3 children.

Donations can be sent to the Da Nang Newspaper, 6 Tran Phu, Da Nang (Phone: 0236 3812341 and 0905832222), or to Mrs Lai’s address: 53 Vo Truong Toan, residential group No 41 in Son Tra District’s An Hai Bac Ward (Phone: 0905662834).
