From 1 April, parking charges on downtown Tran Phu officially went into effect, allowing commuters to pay parking fees through their smart phones or Short Message Service (SMS).

Accordingly, the fees are applied on 4-wheeled vehicles parking along the whole Tran Phu Street, from its intersections with Dong Da and Le Dinh Duong.

The whole route is divided into 7 separate parking areas.

Fees for each parking place costs from 15,000 VND to 30,000 VND for 2 hours.

In detail, a parking fee for under 16-seat vehicles and under-2.5 tonne trucks is 15,000 VND per each vehicle. Meanwhile, 20,000 VND is collected for over 16-seat vehicles and trucks of between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes, and 30,000 VND for over 30-seater vehicles and over 3,5-tonne trucks.

The fees are collected between 6.00am to 10.00pm every day, except for public holidays and Lunar New Year (Tet Festival) break approved by the Vietnamese State. They are 5-day Tet Festival break, 1-day New Year holiday break, the National Reunification Day (30 April), the International Labour Day (1 May), the death anniversary of the Hung Kings (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), and the National Day (2 September).

Most notably, fire engines, traffic police vehicles, ambulances and other specialised vehicles, all of which are on official duty in accordance with the national laws, are exempt from new parking charges.

Those who violating the new rules will be imposed administrative fines, which are up to 3 times higher than the amount of parking fees. The maximum penalty will be 50 million VND.

The parking fees can be paid through mobile application named ‘Smart Parking’, through prepaid cards issued by smart parking system, or through debit and credit cards of Visa/ MasterCard, and any ATM card issued by Vietnamese banks.
