This was the first time that such a complicated case of thyroid cancer had been dealt with at this hospital.
On 12 April, Hung was rushed into the hospital with haemoptysis. Previously, he had undergone a thyroidectomy in which all of the thyroid gland is removed, along with curettage.
The doctors then diagnosed that the patient suffered a thyroid nodule measuring about 2.5cm x 1.5cm, which invaded three fourths of the airway lumen, and increased the potential risk of tumour rupture causing respiratory failure. So, the patient chance of survival was left hanging by a thread at that time.
On 20 April, the hospital’s surgeons successfully performed an operation on Hung to remove the narrowed portion and re-connect the normal wider portions.
After having undergone the surgery, Hung gradually recovered his health. The patient was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
His neck now can move normally, and he is able to talk and eat normally.
