Last Friday in Da Nang, a representative from the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Department (FPFRPD) under the management of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, presented bravery medals and compliment letters from FPFRPD’s Director Doan Viet Manh to 2 foreigners for their ‘heroic’ efforts to rescue children in a recent motel blaze.

The ‘heroic’ duo were 32-year-old Valeria from Russia, and 45-year-old Jean Christophe from France. They were staying at the Lucky Bee homestay, opposite to the Bao Hoang hostel where a large fire broke out at around 10.00am on 1 May.

On hearing the screams for help from the local people nearby, the duo dashed to the terrace of the burning hostel, and then smashed a window to break into the house in an attempt to save the 2 child victims from almost certain death.

Previously on 2 May, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho had sent compliment letters to the 2 foreigners for their good deed which shows courageous spirit and enthusiastic engagement in the rescue. In addition, certificates of Merit from the Lien Chieu District People’s Committee were presented to the foreign rescuers on the same day.
