Jetstar delays flight for rushing pregnant passenger to hospital
A Jetstar Pacific flight had to stop on the runway and head back to the terminal as a foreign pregnant passenger was bleeding and in need of emergency medical care.
A Jetstar flight from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City was delayed for two hours as a pregnant woman was in need of urgent medical care |
At 7.55am on Wednesday, the flight BL581, with about 150 passengers onboard, was going to leave Da Nang International Airport for Ho Chi Minh City.
At that time, a Czech woman at seat No 17B stood up, and signaled that she needed to use the toilet.
She repeatedly said ‘baby’ and was worried she may have miscarriage. The airline staffs asked permission from the crew members to allow the pregnant passenger to use the toilet. When finding the passenger to start bleeding heavily, the flight attendants notified the captain to make an emergency stop. The crew then asked the Airport's ground service staff for assistance to rush the woman to the Hoan My Hospital nearby for medical care.
The hospital’s doctors said the passenger was on the 11th week of pregnancy, and showed signs of miscarriage. The foreign expectant mother was required to remain in the hospital for several days although she and her unborn child are both in a healthy condition.
The Jetstar flight eventually took off at around 9.43 am on the same day. The airline said it has given the woman and her relatives tickets for a next flight for free.
On 4 March 2016, a woman delivered a baby boy at a height of 10,000 metres on a Jetstar Pacific flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang under the help of English doctor Fiona Sutton onboard.
