Making local beaches more accessible

The Da Nang authorities are planning to open more footpaths allowing beach-goers access to local beaches as soon as possible, following the mushrooming of resorts and hotelsalong the seafront over recent years.

To date, approval from the municipal government has been given to the detailed plan for the opening of a between 39.1 and 47.1m-wide public walkway to beaches between he Furama Resort Danang and the Ariyana Danang Tourism Complex in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Khue My Ward.

Covering a total area of 1.278ha, the project will be implemented at an estimated cost of 2.25 billion VND funded by the city budget. 

Work is scheduled to start on the project in July, and is expected to be completed by late September.
Under the detailed plan, the whole project will feature a 3,660m2 pedestrian promenade, 5,207m2 green area, 213m2 parking space for motorbikes and bicycles, 475m2 car parking lot, a 66m2 wide complex for public toilets and service areas, and 3,160m2 wide sandy area, plus other auxiliary facilities.

Mr Nguyen Van Anh, the Deputy Head of the municipal Management Board of Traffic Project Investment and Construction, highlighted the significance of the project in creating a new ideal relaxation area in the city.

The intention is to facilitate locals and visitors to cycle bikes, as well as to take leisurely strolls to enjoy the fresh air there, or to explore the beauty of beaches.

Moreover, the soon-to-be-opened footpath helps to create airy space connecting beaches with nearby residential areas, as well as to promote public beach use for the general public, and enhance the beauty of urban landscapes.

In a similar vein, 3 other walkways to beaches will be created, namely a 7m-wide path between the Silver Shore and the Hon Ngoc A Chau resorts, 10m-wide one on the northern side of the Song - Danang Beach Villas project, and the other, measuring 4m in width, on the southern side of the Future Property Invest tourism area project.

The Management Board of Traffic Project Investment and Construction has just submitted detailed plans for the opening of these 3 footpaths to the Department of Construction for appraisement, and then the municipal government for final approval. 

Furthermore, a footpath will be created at the end of Ho Xuan Huong Street so that locals and visitors can find it easier to access beautiful beaches which are not vulnerable to coastal erosion.

Relevant agencies are considering taking back unused land of the existing project in order to construct a bathing area, a footpath leading to beaches, and a park opposite Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street.
In the past, there was very easy access to beaches for the general public.

However, since many seaside resorts and hotels were built along the coastal streets, walkways to the beach have been totally blocked.

In reality, there are now no public swimming areas in use along an about 5km-long section of the beach alongside the Vo Nguyen Giap and Truong Sa routes in Ngu Hanh Son District due to there being many luxury holiday resorts. Included are Premier Village, Pullman, Furama, Fusion Maia, Olalani, and the Hon Ngoc A Chau project. Some of these venues are now enclosed by tall concrete fences, metal sheeting or large-sized advertising panels.

The owners of some resorts and hotels have demonstrated their social responsibilities towards the community by voluntarily joining efforts with the city authorities to open walkways to beaches and seaside roads.

Prescribed in the national Law on Land, land can be taken back to construct historical-cultural relic sites, municipal/provincial public construction works and utilities, entertainment areas serving to the community and other related projects.

The withdrawal of land which has been handed over to businesses is based on either compensation payments at the market price for them or allocating another suitable location in the city.
