Engaging the public to protect and conserve marine environment

A launch ceremony for the World’s Oceans Day (8 June) and the National Sea and Islands Week 2018 took place at Da Nang’s Tho Quang fishing wharf last Saturday. The week, which has ‘Joining Efforts to Keep the Blue Colour of Sea’ as its theme, is running from 1 - 8 June.

Organised by the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment and the Son Tra Ditsrict authorities, the event was attended by over 2,000 representatives from local agencies and associations, the city-based armed forces, and local residents.

In his remarks at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said that Da Nang is targeting to spearhead maritime economy growth by 2030.

He, therefore, stressed the necessity for local residents to protect marine environment, and offer solutions to solve the problem of plastic pollution in the sea.

Focus should be on protecting environment, and preventing environmental degradation and pollution. Heed should be paid not to throwing litter, and discharging untreated wastewater into the sea.

After the ceremony, the participants enthusiastically cleaned up areas surrounding Tho Quang fishing wharf and the Man Quang Bay in Son Tra District.

Yesterday, the Hai Chau District People’s Committee organised a launch ceremony in response to the World Environment Day 2018 (5 June) and an action month for environment which is lasting until 31 July.

To mark the occasion, a total of 1,500 local residents, along with representatives from local agencies and associations, and the district-based armed forces, became actively involved in cleaning up the Khue Trung Canal and the Do Xu Lake.
