At around 12.00pm on 13 August, fishing boat QB 92345 TS from Quang Binh Province’s Bo Trach District, with its crew of 8, unexpectedly suffered engine failure whilst fishing in Viet Nam’s Hoang Sa waters, about 120 nautical miles from Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son Island.

Unfortunately, the crew members were unable to make repairs at that time.

The distressed boat was then adrift in the sea in the context of unfavourable weather conditions sparked by the effect of recent typhoon.

After receiving an SOS message from the distressed boat’s captain, Mr Le Van Chien, Fisheries Surveillance Team No 3, at 5.00pm on 15 August, sent out its fisheries surveillance ship, KN 366, to help the victims.

After tense hours of facing high waves and strong wind, at around 9.15pm on the same day, the ship arrived at the scene to bring the 8 fishermen to safety.
