At 3.40pm on 7 September, fishing boat DNa 90397 TS from Son Tra District’s An Hai Bac Ward, with a total of 8 crew members onboard, unexpectedly suffered engine failure whilst fishing at latitude 18°12N and longitude 108°13’E, about 130 nautical miles north of the Da Nang coast.
Unfortunately, the boat’s crew members were unable to make repairs and their boat was adrift in strong level 8/9 winds and rough seas.
After receiving an SOS message from the distressed boat’s captain, Mr Pham Thanh, the Viet Nam MRCC asked Da Nang MRCC to send out its rescue ship SAR 412 to help the boat in distress.
At 2.00am on 8 September, SAR 412 arrived at the scene and all the fishermen were transferred to the rescue ship for medical check-ups.
By 9.00pm on the same day, the fishing boat and the 8 fishermen in danger were safely brought back to the mainland.
