A 35-year-old woman from Hoa Khanh Bac Ward, Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District, on Thursday, reported to the municipal police about a fraud in which she had been cheated out of a large amount of money by a foreign man friend on facebook.

In mid-June, a Facebook user, named Clack D.Syyy, made friends with the Da Nang woman. The foreign man who claimed to be a petroleum engineer living in Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur, was in conversation on Facebook with the victim for a period. He tricked her into falling in love with him, and then used her trust to deceitfully take her money.

Accordingly, the fraudster said he wanted to borrow 578 million VND from the victim in order to buy chemicals in service for his job. The victim totally believed him and sent such a large amount of money to his bank accounts. But, earlier this month, when the victim was asked to lend more, she informed that there was no money left. Soon, the victim realised that the man had already deactivated his own Facebook account, and could no longer be reached. As a result, she reported the scam to the police.
