Initiated by the municipal Women’s Union, the model aims to raise public awareness about environmental protection.

Mrs Nguyen Thi Nhan from Thanh Khe District’s An Khe Ward said environmental pollution is one of the main matters of deep concern raised by local residents for many years. Therefore, she and many women in her residential area have been actively engaged in promoting the implementation of the ‘Environmentally-friendly waste bins’ model in their locality.

Accordingly, members of the Women’s Union chapters across the district have collected old paint buckets, cleaned them, and repainted them with green colour. These reusable paint buckets have had the words ‘Women’s Union Chapter - Environmentally-Friendly Waste Bins’ written on them.

Mrs Pham Thi Thu Hien, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union chapter of Cam Le District’s Hoa Xuan Ward, highlighted the significance of the environmentally-friendly waste bins with covers in preventing mice and other insects from biting and scattering rubbish onto road surfaces, adversely affecting the environmental sanitation and the health of local citizens. In addition, the model aims to encourage people to always use a bin for their waste in order to keep their locality tidy.

“In 2018 alone, over 500 reusable paint buckets have been cleaned, repainted and put into use. To date, a total of more than 2,000 environmentally-friendly waste bins have been used across the ward”, Mrs Hien added.

Mrs Le Thi Thu Hue, Vice Chairwoman of the Women’s Union chapter of Thanh Khe District, remarked the use of environmentally-friendly waste bins has made residential areas become cleaner, more civilised and beautiful.
