In recent times, the travelling of overloaded dumper trucks carrying soil, stones, sand, and other construction materials was bad for the environment, and this could result in possible tragic traffic accidents. Hence, these issues have sparked deep concern amongst the general public.

According to Mr Nguyen Trung Nghia, the Chief Inspector of the municipal Department of Transport said, in an attempt to deal with this issue of deep concern, a total of 200 companies involved in exploiting and transporting mineral resources along with their transport service providers together have signed commitments in writing to ensure their strict compliance with the city’s regulations about ensuring environmental protection and traffic safety.

In particular, focus is on carefully covering the loads on the trucks with sheeting to prevent spillage of materials on public roads. In addition, spraying water onto the road surface to clear dust away if any are required.

Also, in order to ensure the traffic safety, these businesses are asked to make suitable adjustments to their truck schedules, their vehicles must carry loads within their limits, and they should not exceed the speed limits.

These businesses are also required to build areas for cleaning their dumper trucks at their exploitation locations, as well as to install weighbridge stations and surveillance cameras to detect and handle the overloading.

Meanwhile, many mobile weighbridges have been deployed on suburban roads to curb the prevalence of overloaded vehicles.

Municipal inter-disciplinary inspection teams are on duty mobile weighbridge stations installed on sections of Highway 14B in order to deal with overloaded vehicles and regulate traffic flow there.

Between January and August, inspectors detected and imposed a total of more than 4 billion VND in fines on a total of over 2,000 weight violations.

Of the total offending vehicles, 137 trucks were fined a sum of more than 770 million for carrying loads exceeding the limits and making spillage onto public roads.

Mai Thi Tuyet, who lives near Hai Van - Tuy Loan ring road in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Lien Commune said the majority of truck drivers have raised their awareness of carrying loads within their limits.

In recent times, there has been a sharp decrease in the number of overloaded dumper trucks, failure to properly secure and balance truck loads, and other trucking weight violations.

She hoped that more regular patrols and checks by relevant local agencies would be conducted in the coming time, hereby making road users feel more secure whilst travelling on this road.
