It was reported that, on Thursday, many residential areas in the Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son districts still suffered from water shortage.

Ms Tran Thi Ha, a resident living on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Ngu Hanh Son District said that water supplies for many residential areas resumed on Thursday, but water flow and pressure is still low.

Mr Ho Huong, the DAWACO General Director said that effective measures are being taken to ensure sufficient water supplies for locals in the long term.

He added that the rotational water supply schedules for parts of the city amid ongoing interruptions have yet to be carried out right now because this plan might have many negative effects on local economic development, especially on production activities at companies.

Currently, DAWACO is attaching importance to increasing water production capacity and fetching water sources.

It was reported that, at 3.00pm on Thursday, the salinity level of the city’s Cau Do (Red Bridge) River was under and 10,000ml. This figure is expected to decrease in the next few days, hereby facilitating to raise freshwater supply capacity.

Following recent instructions from the municipal government, new water supply pipelines, measuring 600cm - 800cm in diameter, running through the Ngu Hanh Son and Son districts will be installed as soon as possible.

According to Mr Nguyen Son, the Deputy Director of the Song Bung Hydropower Joint Stock Company, under the influence of the El Nino and La Nina phenomena, the upstream of the Vu Gia River is now facing the exhaustion of water sources

Currently, the Song Bung 4 hydropower reservoir is in desperate need of 183 million m3 of water as required.

The Song Bung 4 hydropower plant upstream of the Vu Gia- Thu Bon rivers in Quang Nam Province is willing to discharge 51 million m3 of water to increase water supplies to the city.

However, as stipulated in the national government-approved inter-reservoir operating procedures at the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin, during the flood season, the water discharge for electricity generation must be approved by the chairperson of the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee. Hence, the Song Bung Hydropower Company is now awaiting for green light from the provincial administration.
