Fishing boat with 10 crew rescued after engine fails at sea

The National Committee Office on Incident, Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue was alerted in the morning of 29 November by a distress signal from fishing boat DNa 91060 TS from Da Nang’s Son Tra District.

The National Committee Office on Incident, Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue immediately asked Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Da Nang to help the distressed boat with 10 crew onboard. In addition, all vessels in the area were asked to assist if they were nearby.

According to the owner of the distressed boat, Mr Cao Minh Tuyen from Nai Hien Dong Ward, at around 3.00am on 29 November, his fishing boat suffered engine failure whilst fishing in the sea at around 28 nautical miles southeast off the Con Co Island, Quang Tri Province.

However, the boat’s crew members were unable to solve the problem, their boat was adrift in strong level 4/5 northeast winds.

At 11.15am on the same day, the Coast Guard ship, CSB 2012, from the Quang Nam Province-based Marine Police Agency Zone 2 was called in to tow the distressed boat and take 10 crew back to shore by the Command of Viet Nam Coast Guard.
