The arrestees are Le Ngoc Minh Hoang, Luong Thanh Quoc Huy, and Pham Thanh Hai, all aged 30, from Duy Xuyen District in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam. They were studying at the city-based university and junior colleges.

According to the police-conducted investigations, the trio used commercial websites to sell low-cost motorbikes and induced those in need to contact them via phone calls, and then to make payments by transferring money into the scammers’ bank accounts.

From January until their arrests, the 3 suspects were behind scams totalling more than 2 billion VND involving about 300 people nationwide.

The scammers used the money cheated out of the victims for personal spending.

The investigation into this online fraud case is now underway.
