The receivers include senior revolutionary veterans, very poor social policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, People's Armed Forces heroes, labour heroes, war invalids, and the families of martyrs.

Mr Nguyen Van Chau from the municipal Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs said this year sees a significant increase in the number of Tet gift recipients. By the end of last year, a total of 2,472 new houses had been built for local social policy families, a rise of 153 against 2017.

“This year, the total money raised from the general public for the municipal fund to help social policy beneficiaries exceeded last year’s figure. This will help to local social policy families celebrate warm and happy Tet holiday”, Mr Chau remarked.

Mr Trinh Hong Hai, Head of the Thanh Khe District Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Office, said Tet gifts totalling more than 3.7 billion VND would be given to 6,331 social policy beneficiaries across the district.

He added that the district authorities would pay pre-Tet visits and present gifts to 50 local social policy families. They would visit the city’s care centre for those who gave great service in the national revolution.

Like Thanh Khe District, the remaining districts in the city have developed their plans for giving Tet gifts to social policy beneficiaries.

Mr Nguyen Thanh Phong, Head of the Son Tra District Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Office, 111 houses were refurbished and 18 new ones were built for social policy families before Tet at a total cost of more than 5 billion VND. Over 2,300 gifts will be given to social policy families across the district.
