Following the demolition order issued by the Da Nang authorities in February 2015, a gold mining magnate has demolished his 100 billion VND (4.58 millionUS$) palace completely which was illegally constructed inside the boundaries of a special-use forest area near the Hai Van Mountain in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District.

The owner of the multimillion-dollar villa is Ngo Van Quang, who is the Director of a gold company based in Quang Nam Province.

The illegal-built work was discovered by the district authorities in 2014.

However, Mr Quang intentionally delayed the demolition and repeatedly appealed for support from different agencies through a number of appeals so as to retain his building.

The Lien Chieu District administration kept a close eye on the demolition work.

The bulky estate featured a 137m2 metal-roofed main house, 5 wooden buildings with a total area of 436m2, 5 concrete buildings totalling 396m2, and 7 tile-roofed buildings covering 442m2.

There was also a 600m2 fish pond, 6 entrance gates and many stone sculptures.

The district authorities took disciplinary actions against the 2 district and ward-level officials who had illegally granted the construction licence to Mr Quang.
