Overseas Vietnamese lend helping hand to those in need
Between 2014 and 2018, the Association for Liaison with Overseas Vietnamese (ALOV) acted as a bridge in connecting overseas Vietnamese with the city, which helped to promote the advertisement of the locality’s images to domestic and international friends.
Some OV and leaders of the municipal Fatherland Front Committee gathered on the occasion of the Tet Festival 2018. |
During that period, the Association appealed to overseas Vietnamese (OV) for the city’s investment projects and its charity activities.
In particular, 403 portions of rice totalling nearly 45.86 million VND, and hundreds of Tet gifts, were presented to poor people across the city.
A group of the Association’s volunteers provided free medical examinations for patients at the city’s Mental Health Hospital and the care centre for people with mental disorders.
In addition, 4.34 million VND went to help the needy residing in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune, whilst scholarships, worth one million VND each, were given to 5 poor studious pupils in Thanh Khe District’s Xuan Ha Ward.
Notably, OV Vo Ngoc Thuan presented 25 million VND to a poor family in Hoa Vang District in order to help them build a new storm-resistant house.
He also gave 3 bookcases to the city’s Care Centre for Street Children, and 10 million VND in cash to the municipal Association of AO Victims.
Meanwhile, Mr Phan Van Thuy residing in the USA donated 2 fire engines to the Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Division under the municipal Department of Police.
Besides, an OV living in South Korea, Mr Ly Xuong Can, a member of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, donated a total of 80 million VND to 40 poor studious pupils.
A large amount of money was raised from OV communities to help people in central provinces cope with the consequences brought about by floods, and give Tet gifts, worth 500,000 VND, to poor people.
Over the past 5 years, the Friends of Danang, a 100% non-profit volunteer organisation in the USA which gets involved in raising money for humanitarian projects in Da Nang, donated 114 million VND in total for the construction of a playground for pupils at the Hoa Son No 2 Primary School in Hoa Vang District.
The Association for Orphans and Destitute Children in Viet Nam (ASSORV), a non-profit organisation managed by Ms Cecile Le Pham living in France, presented a total of 50 million VND to families in Hoa Vang District affected by storms and 200 Tet gifts to disadvantaged people through the ‘The Spring of Love’ programme.
During the 2019-2024 term, ALOV will focus on appealing for OV communities around the world to join forces with the municipal authorities to implement more social welfare programmes in the city. This will help to consolidate the great national unity, and make Da Nang more beautiful, peaceful, modern and civilised.
