A local man reported that, on 18 December, thieves burgled his own apartment on Pham Cu Luong Street in Son Tra District, and rummaged through everything whilst he was on his Ho Chi Minh City business trip.

Earlier, on 10 December, burglars broke into roadside stores selling miscellaneous goods in Lien Chieu District to steal cash, mobile phones, computers, soft drinks, cigarettes, and other items.

Since early December 2018, the Lien Chieu District police discovered 5 cases of two-wheeled thefts, and apprehended the suspects for further investigation.

Likewise, the Lien Chieu District police officers smashed a theft gang which carried out multiple property thefts across the location in a short period.

From now until the Tet holiday break, people should be highly alert to motorbike thefts and home break-ins as the offenders-used tricks have become more complicated, the Da Nang police are warning.

Opportunist thieves are always looking for easy targets to exploit and steal from, especially attacking a property which is left unattended in an instant.

By day, burglars usually prowl about streets targeting vulnerable houses. In the dead of night they return, creep into the target house, ransack the place, and make off with any valuable properties.

Colonel Tran Muu, the Deputy Director of the municipal Police Department, said, in order to ensure the security before, during and after the upcoming Tet festival break, local police forces are taking strict measures to crack down on criminals, especially thieves and burglars.

In particular, both day and night-time patrols will be increased in the coming time to detect and handle any thefts and home break-ins in a prompt fashion.

“The public should raise their vigilance against property thieves and home intruders”, Colonel Tran Muu warned, adding that with a few basic precautions, locals can avoid falling victim of such cases.

He suggested that owners should keep their properties in safe places or have them minded carefully. It is also necessary for residents to boost home security and make their houses burglary-resistant.
