As many as 12 products of 22 batches which are suspected of being infected with Salmonella were been imported to Viet Nam in 2017 and 2018, according to the VFA.

Earlier on Monday, the VFA received information from the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) on food safety incidents involving some children infected with Salmonella in France.

An investigation was conducted in France and detected a link between the infections and the use of some baby formula products.

The VFA has contacted the company which imported these products in Viet Nam to recall all batches of suspicious products.

The administration has also asked customs authorities and State inspection agencies to stop imports of suspicious products at the border and requested food safety divisions nationwide to supervise suspect products and recall them as soon as they are discovered.

The administration also recommended consumers to not use the products with the name and lot numbers listed on the VFA website at www.vfa.gov.vn and notify local authorities when it is detected.

The VFA is continuing to work with the INFOSAN to get more detailed information so consumers can identify the products more easily.

Salmonella is an intestinal infection caused by bacteria.
