Accidents claim 183 lives during Tet holiday

As many as 22 people were killed and 19 others injured in 22 traffic accidents that occurred nationwide on 10 February (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year).

The Ministry of Public Security reported that during the 9-day holiday, 276 accidents claimed 183 lives and injured 241 others.

From 2 - 8 February, 135 were dead and 189 others were injured in 214 accidents, down 17.7% in the number of cases, 30.7% in fatalities and 14.01% in the number of the wounded  as compared to the previous Tet holiday.

The average fatalities during Tet reached 20 cases per day, down 28% annually.

According to the Health Ministry’s Medical Services Administration, over 45,600 cases underwent health check-ups and first aid due to traffic accidents from 2-9 February, accounting for 14.3% of the total. More than 16,600 of them were hospitalised and 187 dead.

Traffic police also dealt with more than 21,300 road safety violations, seizing nearly 4,000 vehicles and 2,900 driving licences.
