Legendary golfer Greg Norman, widely known as ‘The Great White Shark’, now serves as Viet Nam’s tourism ambassador for the 2018 - 2021 tenure following the November 2018 appointment by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Legendary golfer Greg Norman has made impressive dedication towards Da Nang’s golf industry through his design of BRG Da Nang Golf Resort, previously known as the Danang Golf Club.

Born in 1955, Greg Norman is an Australian professional golfer and entrepreneur who spent 331 weeks as the world’s Number 1 Official World Golf Rankings golfer in the 1980s and 1990s.

He has won 91 international tournaments, including 20 PGA Tour tournaments and two majors - the Open Championships in 1986 and 1993. The Australian millionaire golfer owns several companies bearing his name, and has established over 100 golf courses worldwide.

To date, the Australian millionaire has poured his money to build 5 golf courses in Viet Nam. In particular, Norman himself designed BRG Da Nang Golf Resort- a 7,160-yard, 18-hole course features lush green fairways, edged by sandy rough and areas of trees in Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward.

This international-standard golf course has a classic links design, incorporating many natural duneland features as on the world’s most renowned seaside courses.

It also boasts a top-class clubhouse with amenities such as food and beverage outlets, locker rooms, a pro shop, and an adjacent driving range.

When it first opened in 2010 as the Danang Golf Club, it was immediately recognised as one of the top 15 best new golf courses in the world by the US Golf World Magazine.

In 2011, it was voted the Best New Golf Course in Asia by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly.

In 2013, it was also named ‘Best Golf Course in Viet Nam’ and one of the top ten courses in the Asia-Pacific region.

In particular, in its August 2013 issue, the US Golf World Magazine compared this course to Pinehurst and Pine Valley, which are 2 of the most famous golfing venues in the USA.

In his over 40-year golf career and over 30 years of being a golf course designer, he claims he has never seen a market developing as quickly as Viet Nam. With a favourable geographic position, rich natural resources and beautiful landscapes, the country boasts many good golf courses.

As a tourism ambassador, Norman hopes to achieve an annual increase of 1-1.5% in the number of foreign golfers coming to Viet Nam.

“I believe that my name in global golf can help attract foreign visitors to Viet Nam, and turn Viet Nam into a well-known golfing destination in the future,” the ambassador proudly declared.

“Through golf, I will advertise Viet Nam’s tourism to travellers around the world, and bring even more international golf events to Viet Nam.”, he added.

The tourism ambassador said he is planning to use the golf industry as the catalyst for encouraging even more travellers to come to Viet Nam from the Southeast Asian region, and the world as a whole, by holding international events, and designing impressive golf courses in Viet Nam’s most attractive destinations.
