Urgent focus on treating victims of coach-truck collision near Hai Van Tunnel

On Monday evening, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho and People's Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung worked with representatives from functional bodies with the focus on issues related to a coach-truck collision near the Hai Van Tunnel which left 16 people injured.

At around 12.10pm on Monday, the coach carrying South Korean tourists was travelling on the approach road leading to the Hai Van Tunnel from Da Nang to Thua Thien-Hue Province when it suddenly collided with the container truck.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, concerned bodies arrived at the scene, in a prompt fashion, to respond to the accident.

After shortly, a total of 16 victims, of whom 15 are South Korean nationals whilst the remaining one is Vietnamese, were rushed to the Da Nang General Hospital for treatment.

Of the 16 hospital-admitted passengers, a South Korean passenger was seriously injured with a broken jaw. The remaining 15 victims sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Initial examinations showed that both the drivers of the passenger bus and the container truck were tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Chairman Tho underlined an urgent need to give timely treatment to the injured crash victims. He also urged transport services providers to ensure the ultimate safety of tourists.

For his recommendations, Vice Chairman Dung agreed with proposals made by the Lien Chieu District Police on the installation of reflective signs, reflective road studs, and soft rubber in a bid quickly handle accident-prone hot spots along the route.

The Deo Ca Investment JSC, the Hai Van Tunnel expansion project’s developer, to ensure traffic safety along the approach road to the tunnel.

On Monday afternoon, Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung arrived at the accident scene came to the scene to direct the cleanup of the accident and rescue mission.

By 6.30pm, the accident scene had been cleared and traffic had been resumed.

On the same day, Vice Chairman Dung and Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Ngo Quang Vinh visited the collision victims receiving treatment at the Da Nang General Hospital.

The city’s branch of Au Lac Tours and Investment Co Ltd, which organised tours for the South Korean visitors, and the city-based transport provider Duy Tuan JSC, were asked to give assistance to the injured tourists during their treatment at the hospital and their stay in the city.
