In recent years, many museums across Da Nang have been boosting the establishment of groups of volunteers who provide active supports for the museums’ events.

Since late 2017, the Fine Arts Museum has had a total of more than 60 volunteers who have been divided into 3 groups.

A group specialises in giving support to public activities, and its members act as museum guides for visitors, whilst another group is responsible for museums’ publicity activities such as writing articles, capturing photos, filming, designing graphics, and making clips and slides.

The remaining group involves translating related documents and other activities.

Ms Pham Thi Cam Ha, leader of the Museum’s Volunteer Club, said that in addition to assigned jobs, volunteers have done other tasks.

Included were sharing museum-related articles on such social networks as Facebook, TripAdvisor, Instagram and Twitter, serving opening ceremonies of events at the museum, and organising games for children in the museum’s events.

In addition, volunteer translators will be responsible for translating Vietnamese articles into foreign language ones to post on the museum’s website and its social networking sites.

Likewise, since 2016, the Museum of Da Nang has recruited over 100 volunteers who are senior high school pupils and students from local universities and junior colleges.

Mr Tran Van Chuan, Head of the museum’s Education-Communications Office, remarked in recent years his museum has welcomed a large number of foreign visitors, especially South Korean and Chinese nationals.

He, therefore, highlighted the important role of volunteers who can speak foreign languages fluently in introducing the history and culture of the city, and the country as a whole, to foreigners.

He added numerous exciting events and meaningful activities are often organised in the museum, including the ‘I Love Vietnamese History’ Festive Day, and the programmes of ‘My Mid-autumn Festival’, ‘Tet Festival’ and ‘Discovering Summer’. He noted the active support by the volunteers has helped to ensure the success of these events and activities.

Ms Nguyen Thi Trinh, Deputy Director of the Fine Arts Museum, emphasised the volunteers' club has played a vital role in giving active support for the organisation of her museum’s events.

She added thanks to the connection and interaction on social networking sites, the museum has attracted a large number of professors, doctors, lecturers and students to study and conduct research.

She also expressed her hope that a network of volunteers for museums would be further expanded in the near future.
